Attack in Black - I’m going to forget
In September 2007, Attack in Black started recording songs on a two-input tape recorder frontman Daniel Romano had found around his house. All of the members spent two days and two nights in guitarist Spencer Burton’s sunroom, recording everything they wrote, and contributing to vocals and different instruments. Late into the second day, the band decided to release their recordings, although this was not their original intention. The result was ATB’S second full length album, The Curve of the Earth .Each song on the album was written by a different member of the band, and sung by the member who penned the track. For example, The Curve of the Earth, the title track for the album, was written and sung by vocalist Dan Romano, where as a track like You’re Such an Only Child was written and sung by Dan’s younger brother Ian, who is also the drummer for ATB. It’s not very often you have a group of musicians exuding so much talent that they can freely exchange roles and pull off an album that was not only well recieved by fans but seemed to have been created so organically. I definitely recommend checking out all three full length albums from Attack in Black. I’m sure you’ll find it refreshing to see a band who carries the weight of talent so evenly.

San franciso based girls is made up of two key members, Christopher Owens who is the main writer and vocalist and Chet White who plays bass and produces. Now even though the band only consists of two people, they often tour with a variety of different musicians to keep their sound complex. Front man, Christopher Owens, also has a tulmulous back story to go along with being compared to singers like Elvis Costello, Buddy Holly, and The Beach Boys. Maybe not on tracks like “Vomit” but check out their entire album “Father, son, and Holy Ghost” and you’ll see what I mean. On top of a contant battle with an opiate addiction, Owens is a former member of the Children of God cult. Now for those of you who haven’t heard of C.O.G, also known as the Family International and Family of Love, they are a religious movement started in 1968 in and around Huntington Beach, California. Now, like any cult, there has been major controversery around the movement regarding sexual abuse, child abduction and practice of beliefs, but Owens relates much of how being part of the Children of God has directly influenced his music. While there, he was not allowed to listen to music from outside the group, but was allowed to watch movies from which he absorbed bands like Queen and Guns N’ Roses. Not much else is known about christopher owens childhood on the commune, but it seems he’s focusing on postives.
On another note, Owens has been asked many times why he chose to name the song (referred to above) “Vomit”, considering it has nothing to do with the lyrics of the song and recently he revealed the reasoning behind the song title.
“ After writing the lyrics the song kept reminding me of the Proverb 26:11 “As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.”
